Clapton at the Savoy in Limerick

by Darwin

Enter Darwin's secret retreat and you'll find this beautiful framed memorabilia on the wall, just above the computer. I was prompted to share this after a Limerick Blogger post featured a Rory Gallagher ticket from 1980. My poster, however, dates from 1978. Sadly, although I have seen Clapton perform, I wasn't at this particular gig. Anyone else?

UPDATE: According to Mike in the comments, and other sources too, the correct year now appears to be 1979. This was part of the Backless tour.

We were a bit young for Clapton gigs in ’78! Might get to see him playing this June? Admission prices hiked up a bit since that Limerick gig though!

Too right. Clapton just announced Malahide Castle for June at a cost of €76.25. Tickets on sale Monday.

I was at that gig. I'm pretty sure it was 1979 actually – it was one of my earliest gigs. Also saw Horslips there a couple of times in 78/79. The gig was great – amazing to see Clapton so up close – i was in row 3 (tickets cost £4). Freddie White Band were great too.

Mike: Cool! I got the year from Freddie White's bio (see link above). I guess I'll have to check the Leader archives for total accuracy.

Yep, definitely 79 – i checked the Leader files myself – i work in local studies at limerick City Library – and the Feb 12th 1979 of the Leader carries an ad for the said gig. I'd also seen that 1978 date on Freddie's site and emailed him with the correct date!
